Help us spruce up and do a Fall Cleaning at one of our United In Care child care locations.  Volunteers will help make the center and outdoor space wonderful for children in the program.

CRE members and families are invited to come out and help us sort, organize and pack gift items for ALICE families in the annual United Way's Gifts of the Season program.  Specific date and time to be announced soon.

Our Forest Defenders are important volunteers who help us maintain our preserve. Training will be provided.

The TNC Preserve is under invasion and we need your help! Non-native plants have been encroaching into our forest, causing harm to native plants and reducing our biodiversity. Unchecked, these” invasive species” can toxify the soil and shade out native plants. Help remove these pesky plants twice a month with the Forest Defenders!

Learn to identify different invasive species and work with our Land Manager to implement various removal techniques. Forest Defenders is open to adults, teenagers and families. Kids 15 and under must be accompanied by a guardian.

United Way of Northern New Jersey is building an online library of stories being read by people of all ages in our community.  We need volunteers like YOU to be a virtual reader and a virtual Book Buddy! 

Please sign up to volunteer to share your time and a much-loved children's story and your love of reading with early readers in our area.  We will send you the Book Buddies Toolkit to assist you and other interested volunteers in how to record yourself reading young children's books.  The online Guide can be accessed through this Form:  21VirtualBookBuddies. or by registering for this project.

Participating is easy!  The time needed is about an hour to 90 minutes to plan and record yourself reading one children's story, depending on how much you choose to rehearse the reading.  You will submit your recording via WeTransfer, which make it easy to upload your video and send to us.

Book Buddies is an ongoing project, so feel free to sign up and submit as many recordings of reading children's books as you wish.  We are also encouraging people to read stories in other languages, especially in Spanish (the books themselves do not need to be Spanish-language books).  Please contact us for more information about submitting a recording in a language other than English.

Discovering the wonder of how something works can be the spark that ignites a child’s enthusiasm for learning. The world of science provides unlimited potential.  In the time it takes to have lunch, employees can create a STEM kit and help light that spark in a child’s imagination!

A STEM kit is comprised of a book, supplemental materials and all of the items necessary to complete an age appropriate science experiment.  STEM kits give teachers, child care workers and parents ready-to-use tools to unlock the possibilities for a child’s future in science, math and related fields.

This is a fun and interesting team-building project and has a long-term positive impact for children in our community.

We are seeking a volunteer that knows sign language to assist at our Haworth Group Home. 

Spectrum for Living is flexible with a volunteers schedule.

Joe had a wish that he could find a few people in the area who would be willing to help and the garden's vitality once he moved on.  There is a lot of flexibility in the schedule.  This is an outdoor activity and offers a safe and healthy opportunity.

Ideally it should be someone who loves gardening and/or helping things grow and stay healthy.  Perhaps someone who is retired and/or has off in the early parts of the morning.

Buddies of NJ is an HIV/AIDS Resource Center for Bergen and Passaic County.

Needed:  Nurse Assistant who has basic knowledge with medical terminology and is comfortable with diverse cultures and the LGBTQ Community.

Looking for a professional person who can donate regular hours assisting in our accounting department.

Ideal candidate would be a retired professional looking to give back to the community.  Also a younger person with self initiative and good work skills.  This person should be able to just jump right in with a little bit of instruction.  

It is preferred person can file hard and computer files correctly; Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office; and General Knowledge of Quick Books.

We need volunteers to help create informational packets and condom packets to distribute to the community. This person could ideally work in an assembly line to create several packets.

We need volunteers to come on Fridays (weather permitting) from 10am to 2pm each week to care for the garden.   Cleaning, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, planting... will be done as needed so be prepared for a little bit of dirt. MEAL DELIVERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - WEEKDAYS

Meals on Wheels of Mercer County works to assist individuals to maintain independence, dignity, health and well-being by providing comprehensive nutrition services and helping ease social isolation.  Most of our participants are seniors and homebound.  Our service area is Ewing, Trenton, Lawrenceville, Hamilton, Princeton, East Windsor, West Windsor and Hightstown. 

Our volunteers deliver meals every day, Monday through Friday between 10am-12:00pm.  Volunteers pick up meals at Rider University in Lawrenceville and follow a route that takes about 1-1/2 hours to complete.  Volunteers enjoy getting to know the participants, and the participants appreciate the meal and the daily conversation. 

"Embracing Moments that Matter" is our mission as volunteers at Transcend Hospice & Palliative Care NJ. 

We are building a reliable, empathetic, creative Volunteer Team to support our families and patients in their homes or the facilities in which they reside.  A few hours a week can make a difference for someone nearing their end of life.

Confidential Sexual Violence Advocates (CSVAs) are trained to answer the 24-hour hotline and accompany survivors to forensic examinations, police stations, and court. CSVAs provide emotional support, information, and referrals to survivors and their loved ones to help them understand their rights and what options and resources are available to them.

The Center for Empowerment provides a free 40+ hour training for those age 18 and over who are interested in becoming an advocate. No experience is necessary, and bilingual individuals are encouraged to apply. Volunteers must live in or near Middlesex County, complete a background check, and have their own reliable transportation and cell phone. Each year, the Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for thousands of children and seniors in need across the country. The generosity of anonymous (Individuals, families or corporate teams) donors who adopt “angels” from the Angel Trees helps make the season more rewarding for the gift giver and gives a sense of normalcy to the recipients.

Last year we served over 700 children and 350 families with toys, clothing and food boxes for Christmas. Help us continue bringing hope during the holidays!

As noted above, this year we have an estimated amount of 1,200 children that will be able to celebrate Christmas with toys under the tree. Therefore, we need SANTA and his elves to help give the toys to families. Distribution will take place drive-thru style in the parking lot of our building. Volunteers will help load toy bags and food boxes into the trunk of vehicles.

Help us distribute a turkey and a food box containing all the Thanksgiving meal fixings to families in our community. Distribution will take place drive-thru style in the parking lot of our building. Volunteers will help load turkey and food boxes into the trunk of vehicles. Other volunteers can also help collect general information about the family.

Tenafly Nature Center is seeking an experienced metal detector enthusiast to assist us with 2 tasks. 

1. The tracking and mapping of a mystery discharge pipe.

2. Scouting for artifacts relating to the agricultural and land use history of the TNC preserve. 

TNC staff have no metal detecting experience so training would not be provided, but staff would be able to show you the locations for each task. 

In approximately 15 hours per month, you can make a difference in a child's life as a volunteer BILINGUAL advocate. More than fifty percent of children in the Passaic and Union County foster care system identify as Latinx. Unfortunately, there is a serious shortage of Bilingual English/Spanish volunteers to advocate for their rights.

When a child enters foster care, he or she is assigned a dedicated, trained Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer from the CASA of Passaic and Union County Program. The child’s advocate ensures that their individual needs remain a priority while they move through the child welfare system and the family court. CASAs work one-on-one with the abused or neglected child, gathering information from the family, caretakers, teachers, doctors, and caseworkers in order to make informed recommendations to the family court about the child’s future. No experience or formal education is needed!

Our Birds of Prey Assistant Caretakers are crucial to the health of our animal ambassadors.

Birds of Prey Assistant Caretakers are responsible for feeding, cleaning & changing water dishes, and cleaning & maintaining the aviary habitats for our non-releasable birds of prey (ex. owls, hawks). Birds of Prey Assistant Caretakers must be comfortable around the animals they are caring for and with the diets they will be offering to the animals. Our birds of prey typically eat deceased rodents. It is a messy job and you must love birds! 

Training will be provided.

Accompany our staff or go it alone - outreach at health fairs and public events, share information about CONTACT's services, recruit client and volunteers. 

Work with us in our small office located in Northfield, a day (or part of a day) per week or as available to create new client welcome packets, update excel and other databases of client and volunteer information, update files with new address and other information, etc.

In approximately 15 hours per month, you can make a difference in a child's life as a volunteer BILINGUAL advocate. More than fifty percent of children in the Passaic and Union County foster care system identify as Latinx. Unfortunately, there is a serious shortage of Bilingual English/Spanish volunteers to advocate for their rights.

When a child enters foster care, he or she is assigned a dedicated, trained Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer from the CASA of Passaic and Union County Program. The child’s advocate ensures that their individual needs remain a priority while they move through the child welfare system and the family court. CASAs work one-on-one with the abused or neglected child, gathering information from the family, caretakers, teachers, doctors, and caseworkers in order to make informed recommendations to the family court about the child’s future. No experience or formal education is needed!

Children in foster care need compassionate, dedicated community members to look out for their best interests and speak up when needed.

We need your help with our Baby’s Best Start program! Baby's Best Start is a nine week program that works together with parents and family members to ensure baby's get off to the best possible start. Stein Hospice patients are often bed or chair bound and in need of companionship.  If you have a big heart and want to bring joy into someone's life, volunteer to visit a patient on a weekly basis.  

CASA volunteers are paired with a foster child and get to know that child and his or her circumstances through monthly visits. Information is gathered from teachers, doctors, and social workers and volunteers make recommendations to a court judge based on the child’s needs. Volunteers influence a foster child’s life across many significant and far-reaching life concerns such as medical care, academics, and enrichment activities.

Home Friends is a visitor program for older adults or people with limiting health conditions. This program was created in 1987 in response to a growing need for companionship and support for home-based older adults in Princeton and nearby communities.

Volunteers can do a variety of things during weekly home visits such as: walk together, read and sort mail, exchange stories about life experiences, or pursue mutually shared interests. Some volunteers bring library books, share a movie, help with technology, or work in the garden together.

Home Friends was designed to complement and support, rather than replace, the role of family and paid caregivers.

Once matched with an older adult, we ask that you meet at least one hour a week to build a good relationship that the person can rely on.

Project Appreciation offers a meaningful way for community members to express their gratitude to local first responders by assembling thoughtful treat bags.

You can support Project Appreciation by organizing a collection drive and helping to pack these thank-you bags, which will be distributed to first responders throughout South Jersey. We invite schools, faith-based organizations, corporate groups, and community teams to join this effort in honor and remember September 11, 2001.

Our ambitious goal is to gather enough donations to fill a "thank you" bag for every first responder across all seven counties in South Jersey. It's a significant challenge, but with your support, we’re confident we can achieve it.

United Way of Greater Mercer County is seeking volunteers to join the tax prep team. The program provides families and individuals making less than $65,000/year with FREE tax return preparation.

Last year's volunteers prepared over 1,000 free tax returns and provided total refunds of $1.3 million including Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) to working individuals and families as well as those who are 60 years of age and older in our community.

Our Assistant Land Steward are important volunteers who help us maintain our preserve.

Assistant Land Stewards are responsible for helping our Land & Facilities Manager maintain a healthy and accessible preserve. They help keep our trails wood chipped, remove invasive plant species, assist with seasonal trail clearance (ex. removing leaves from paths), and other habitat restoration and trail improvement needs. Volunteers may also assist  staff with various routine day-to-day maintenance projects and special one-time projects.

Volunteers are needed to sit at our entrance and to help keep track of the number of trail visitors, answer questions regarding the trails, give an overview of the organization, and ensure visitors feel safe and welcome. Our Faerie Trail Caretakers are special helpers that make our faerie trail kept looking nice and whimsical, and provide our visitors with a fun passive exhibit to enjoy.

We are seeking volunteers who are interested in helping care for our Faerie trail. Volunteers will be asked to use their artistic and craft skills to maintain this creative exhibit while making sure the fae folk are happy with their forest community.

HomeWorks is looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers who are passionate about educational equity, tutoring, mentoring, and building relationships with HomeWorks scholars. HomeWorks Trenton is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides a community-based after-school boarding program that includes academic and identity-driven leadership enrichment activities to supplement public schools, equip young women, and build community leaders. HomeWorks fosters a community of young women from Trenton who strive to achieve their full potential and positively impact the world around them.

As a tutor, you will volunteer from 7pm to 8:30pm on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Priority is given to tutors who are available at least two days per week. You must be able to commit to your days throughout the duration of the school year. You must be strong in either math, science, history, or humanities. Our greatest need at the moment is for math tutors; however, tutors in any subject are welcome. 

Tutors should have an interest in and comfort working with 9-12th grade female students. They must be culturally competent and able to honor and respect the beliefs, language, interpersonal styles and behaviors of the individual scholars in our program.

Embracing HospiceCare is seeking volunteer End-of-Life Doulas to support our patients and their loved ones. Whether you have experience serving as an EOL Doula or are just starting out, we would love to hear from you. Here at Embracing, we see the value of EOL doulas and recognize the important role they play in the dying process. The EOL Doulas we are looking for must:

Experience with seniors and hospice care is preferred but not required. An EOL Doula certification or EOL Doula training is a plus nut not required. Embracing HospiceCare has a certified EOL Doula on staff who will oversee the training of volunteer EOL Doulas*.

Volunteer EOL Doulas must commit to a minimum of 40 field service hours. Hours can be used to count towards a formal EOL doula certification such as those offered by the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA) or similar training organizations.

Project Sunshine is an international volunteer-led nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring joy and play to pediatric patients. Our volunteers get firsthand experience of aiding the healing journey of children facing medical challenges through play, which allows for creative expression, creates an outlet for emotion, and minimizes the anxiety or stress the children experience. Project Sunshine volunteers do this through in-hospital visits, packing activity kits, and leading virtual play (TelePlay). We are seeking Volunteer Reiki Practitioners to work with our patients! Reiki therapy has been known to help alleviate the boredom, frustration, loneliness, depression, and fear patients often experience in their final weeks. You can make a difference in the life of someone living with a terminal illness by offering your services as a reiki practitioner!

Per state regulations, Volunteer Reiki Practitioners are not required to hold any sort of certification to practice; however, we would prefer practitioners who have reached at least Level 2 training.

Volunteers must submit to a background check. The program commitment is 1 hour once a week and the schedule of meetings is flexible. Volunteers are expected to report their hours monthly through the JFSMW Volunteer Tracking system and submit an update of the visit to the program coordinator via our app.

This program covers Essex, Morris, and surrounding counties, but we have the most need for female volunteers to visit homebound women in Essex County.

Tuesday Meal Recovery: Volunteers are needed to transport meals from The Peck School (Morristown, NJ) to Joi's Angels (East Orange, NJ), Meal pickup in Morristown (any time between 1-2PM), ~25 minute drive to East Orange.

Note: Volunteer must have their own car and a valid driver's license.

Wednesday Meal Recovery: Volunteers needed to transport meals from Gill St. Bernard's School (Peapack, NJ) to Nourish NJ (Victory Gardens, NJ), Meal pickup in Peapack (any time between 2:45 - 3:45PM), ~25 minute drive to Victory Gardens.
