About the opportunity: Share My Meals is looking for dedicated volunteers to pick up meal donations from our various generous local donors on weekdays ranging from early morning to early afternoon, and deliver to our hub in Princeton. Meal recovery routes typically take 30 to 60 minutes roundtrip.

Home Delivery: We are also looking for volunteers to deliver recovered food from our Princeton hub to the homes of individuals in need on weekdays from 4-5:30pm and on Saturday afternoons. Home delivery routes typically take 60-90 minutes to complete.

In order to adhere to food safety guidelines, Share My Meals provides all necessary equipment (i.e. insulated bags) to transport food donations safely and requires volunteers to track pick-up and delivery route start and end times using our smart phone app.

Volunteer Requirements:

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.  Parents may volunteer with their children.

Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license.

Volunteers must provide their own transportation and have the necessary auto insurance (minimum of $300,000 Single Limit or $100,000/$300,000 Split Limit auto liability limits).

Volunteers must have a smartphone with the ability to download our food donation tracking app.

We are seeking Russian-speaking telephone callers to help with socializing Russian-speaking clients. Volunteers will enjoy a one-on-one relationship with one of our homebound and lonely senior clients, helping to alleviate loneliness and isolation with important human contact and encouraging them to socialize. Volunteers provide companionship once or twice a week for approximately 15-20 minutes per call, helping to improve the quality of life of the individual.

Dementia-Friendly Movie Matinee Volunteers

North Jersey Villages is sponsoring a series of afternoon theater events for people experiencing dementia and their caregivers. The upcoming events are scheduled at 12:30 PM on Wednesdays, September 10 and October 8 at the Hawthorne Theater and November 12 at the Westwood Theater.

We are looking for 5 to 6 volunteers to work with us for 4 hours to assist our guests with snacks, seating, and information when they arrive at the theater. To support a positive volunteer experience, all volunteers are expected to attend a half-hour training on Zoom before day of event as well as a brief training and a tour of the library auditorium one half hour prior to the event.

Many area youths do not have access to books when they can’t go to school or the library. Help bring literature to them by reading a book and submitting a virtual storytime to us! 

We will be posting the videos on YouTube and area youth will have access to those recordings. To complete this project, you only need an age-appropriate book from Kindergarten-5th Grade and a way to record video (phone, computer, or another recording device).

Family Mentor Program.

Use your life experience!  Social workers make in home assessments of families requesting these services, and volunteers are matched based on their time needs and requirements geographically; and the nature of the goals the family wants to work on. The geographic area served is all of Somerset County NJ.

What you'll do as a Mentor Coach:
As a volunteer Mentor Coach, you will work one-on-one with one of our Fellows through their entire two-year journey through our program, attending career development workshops and bringing our best-in-class curriculum to life with your real-world experiences and industry insight. Workshops include trainings by our expert staff, hands-on activities to practice new skills, panels and presentations, leadership opportunities and group discussions.

Program Schedule:
As a Mentor Coach, you will support your Fellow by attending monthly, 3-hour Saturday workshops from 9:30am-12:30pm.

HTCNJ is a non-profit, established in 1981, that has helped over 40,000 children both locally and globally.

We are seeking Russian-speaking volunteers to help with socializing with Russian-speaking clients.

Our socialization programs are designed to provide socialization to homebound, isolated seniors who may not otherwise receive many visits or have personal interaction. Friendly Visitors go to the client’s home, usually once a week for about an hour, during daytime hours, and spend time chatting with the client, or sometimes doing other activities like playing games or playing a musical instrument.  Telephone callers usually call twice per week for around 15-20 minutes or longer.

Ambassadors (Mission Messengers) help spread the word in the community about CASA and the work our amazing volunteers are doing. Every year Katie's House collects toys, games and gift cards (no stuffed animals please) to be given to children in the hospital with cancer.  The toys are given out at their holiday party and extras are used during the year for special occasions like birthdays or just to brighten up a bad day.

Friendly Visits

Simply put, these volunteers visit with our residents. Walk with a resident around the premises. Talk about politics, current events, the theater, or books. Play trivia, Scrabble, cards, or a board game. Host bingo. Bring your favorite aromatherapy oils to share. Paint our female residents' nails. If you can think of it, chances are our residents will enjoy it!

Volunteer to Help Beautify Our Gardens

By volunteering your time to assist with gardening, planting flowers, trimming shrubs, and maintaining our outdoor spaces, you'll play a vital role in keeping our gardens beautiful all year round.

The Friendly Visitor program is designed to provide socialization to homebound, isolated older adults who may not otherwise receive many visits or have much contact with people outside of the care provided to them. Friendly Visitors visit the client’s home, once a week, during weekdays, for at least an hour, to spend time conversing or engaging with the client in other activities like playing games or a musical instrument.

Program Overview: Our Kosher Meals on Wheels program is a lifeline for seniors and individuals with disabilities throughout Bergen and Passaic Counties. In addition to receiving seven nutritionally balanced meals weekly, volunteers also deliver vital human contact and conversation, while also taking the opportunity to check on a senior’s health status and conditions in their home. Drivers pick up the meals in Teaneck and deliver the meals to up to five clients. Routes are available throughout Bergen County and take into consideration the location of the volunteer's home. We have an increased need for drivers in Ft. Lee.

Time Commitment: Approx. 1-3 hours once per week during the day.

Qualifications:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Must have a clean driving record and car insurance.

RAISE (Recognizing Abilities & Inclusion of Special Employees) is a nine-month work and social skills training program that offers part-time jobs to adults with developmental disabilities. We are seeking volunteers to act as RAISE Job Coaches for three hours per week. (Training will be provided.) Volunteers must be physically able to help with basic work tasks. 

[Commitment: 3 hours per week for a 6-9 months. Occasional days that the volunteer is unable to make it, is acceptable, but typically seeking the 3 hours per week commitment.]

We have a need for volunteers in the following roles:

Community Outreach Volunteer - Responsible for aiding program with reaching out to the community by attending community meetings/events, canvasing community areas, and assisting Coordinator with partnership development.
 
General/Daily Operations Volunteer - Responsible for general tasks within and around the center. Provides staff with assistance preparing for workshops, events, and activities. Also, to aid with overall organization of the center.
 
Family Engagement Volunteer - Responsible for assisting Family Partner staff members with family engagement and creating a comfortable atmosphere for all participants entering the center.

The Family Success Centers are community-based, family-centered neighborhood gathering places where residents can go for family support, information, and services. We offer fun activities, informational workshops, and opportunities to learn and grow for people of all ages!

United Way of Northern New Jersey is building an online library of stories being read by people of all ages in our community.  We need volunteers like YOU to be a virtual reader and a virtual Book Buddy! 

Please sign up to volunteer to share your time and a much-loved children's story and your love of reading with early readers in our area.  We will send you the Book Buddies Toolkit to assist you and other interested volunteers in how to record yourself reading young children's books.  The online Guide can be accessed through this Form:  21VirtualBookBuddies. or by registering for this project.

Participating is easy!  The time needed is about an hour to 90 minutes to plan and record yourself reading one children's story, depending on how much you choose to rehearse the reading.  You will submit your recording via WeTransfer, which make it easy to upload your video and send to us.

Book Buddies is an ongoing project, so feel free to sign up and submit as many recordings of reading children's books as you wish.  We are also encouraging people to read stories in other languages, especially in Spanish (the books themselves do not need to be Spanish-language books).  Please contact us for more information about submitting a recording in a language other than English.

Buddies of NJ is an HIV/AIDS Resource Center for Bergen and Passaic County.

Needed:  Nurse Assistant who has basic knowledge with medical terminology and is comfortable with diverse cultures and the LGBTQ Community.

Looking for a professional person who can donate regular hours assisting in our accounting department.

Ideal candidate would be a retired professional looking to give back to the community.  Also a younger person with self initiative and good work skills.  This person should be able to just jump right in with a little bit of instruction.  

It is preferred person can file hard and computer files correctly; Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office; and General Knowledge of Quick Books.

Each event is unique in nature and needs volunteers in the following areas: planning (start to end), promoting under direction of event manager, donation and prized organization, ‘day of’ set-up and clean-up, ticket collectors, greeters, raffles sales, table organization, cooks, servers, performers and artists, security and other misc. These are pretty much staples at our events.

MEAL DELIVERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - WEEKDAYS

Meals on Wheels of Mercer County works to assist individuals to maintain independence, dignity, health and well-being by providing comprehensive nutrition services and helping ease social isolation.  Most of our participants are seniors and homebound.  Our service area is Ewing, Trenton, Lawrenceville, Hamilton, Princeton, East Windsor, West Windsor and Hightstown. 

Our volunteers deliver meals every day, Monday through Friday between 10am-12:00pm.  Volunteers pick up meals at Rider University in Lawrenceville and follow a route that takes about 1-1/2 hours to complete.  Volunteers enjoy getting to know the participants, and the participants appreciate the meal and the daily conversation. 

What kinds of tasks will I be doing? 
Garden Crew volunteers support Pony Power's half-acre Farm in the Forest food production garden. Tasks include weeding, mulching, watering and harvesting.

How long is a shift? 
Shifts are typically 1 hour, once a week (or more, if you'd like!)

Can my teenager volunteer? 
Yes! We welcome volunteers ages 14 years and up.

Embracing HospiceCare is looking for volunteers who are interested in becoming Patient Companions, Pet Therapy, & Musician/Singers. You don’t need a medical background or hospice experience; all you need is a caring heart and a willingness to make a difference in the life of a terminally ill patient. Volunteers will receive special training to serve as Patient Companions. As a Patient Companion, volunteers will have the opportunity to read to patients, play chess or checkers, help to make a scrapbook or write letters – or simply provide a loving, calming presence to a patient in need. A Patient Companion’s duties depend on the patient’s unique needs and interests.

Our Birds of Prey Assistant Caretakers are crucial to the health of our animal ambassadors.

Birds of Prey Assistant Caretakers are responsible for feeding, cleaning & changing water dishes, and cleaning & maintaining the aviary habitats for our non-releasable birds of prey (ex. owls, hawks). Birds of Prey Assistant Caretakers must be comfortable around the animals they are caring for and with the diets they will be offering to the animals. Our birds of prey typically eat deceased rodents. It is a messy job and you must love birds! 

Training will be provided.

Accompany our staff or go it alone - outreach at health fairs and public events, share information about CONTACT's services, recruit client and volunteers. 

Work with us in our small office located in Northfield, a day (or part of a day) per week or as available to create new client welcome packets, update excel and other databases of client and volunteer information, update files with new address and other information, etc.

Looking for a fun volunteer activity that you can do with your friends, co workers or family members?  Would you like to meet the families you are helping? If you answered yes then this is an opportunity perfect for you!

Each night a different volunteer group comes to the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey to prepare dinner for the families staying at our House. The process is very simple.

Once you volunteer to do this you will be ready to schedule another date.  The families truly appreciate having dinner ready for them after a long day at the hospital.

Passaic County 4-H is looking to start an art club for youth in Passaic County. We are in need of adult volunteers to help facilitate programming. Knowledge of and passion for art is appreciated. Required to be able to work with youth in grades 4 to 13. This club would meet at least once a month.

If you or someone you know is interested in working with youth, helping to teach a new skill (sewing, 3-D printing, photography, astronomy), lead a STEM program, coordinate a service project, or just help youth improve their public presentation skills then this is the place for you. Passaic County 4-H is seeking volunteers to work with youth in your community. You can lead an activity of interest, facilitate a long-term project, or become a leader of one of our clubs. Passaic County 4-H uses a learn-by-doing approach to teach important life skills. 

Stein Hospice patients are often bed or chair bound and in need of companionship.  If you have a big heart and want to bring joy into someone's life, volunteer to visit a patient on a weekly basis.  

CASA volunteers are paired with a foster child and get to know that child and his or her circumstances through monthly visits. Information is gathered from teachers, doctors, and social workers and volunteers make recommendations to a court judge based on the child’s needs. Volunteers influence a foster child’s life across many significant and far-reaching life concerns such as medical care, academics, and enrichment activities.  

We ask for a minimum one year commitment, and our volunteers typically spend about 10-15 hours a month on their case.

United Way of Greater Mercer County is seeking volunteers to join the tax prep team. The program provides families and individuals making less than $65,000/year with FREE tax return preparation.

Benefits to the Community
Last year's volunteers prepared over 1,000 free tax returns and provided total refunds of $1.3 million including Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) to working individuals and families as well as those who are 60 years of age and older in our community.

The average adjusted gross income of working individuals and families we serve is $26,000/year. Rising costs of food, housing, and essentials leave families struggling to make ends meet. The savings from tax preparation fees and refunds received are used for basic needs like:

- housing
- healthcare
- childcare
- transportation to their place of employment
- and much more!

To qualify for Federal resources like food assistance (including school lunch and breakfast), health insurance (including Medicaid), college financial aid, and other programs proof of income is required. As a result, tax return filing is crucial to the financial success of many families and individuals. Our Assistant Land Steward are important volunteers who help us maintain our preserve.

Assistant Land Stewards are responsible for helping our Land & Facilities Manager maintain a healthy and accessible preserve. They help keep our trails wood chipped, remove invasive plant species, assist with seasonal trail clearance (ex. removing leaves from paths), and other habitat restoration and trail improvement needs. Volunteers may also assist  staff with various routine day-to-day maintenance projects and special one-time projects.

Training will be provided.

HomeWorks is looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers who are passionate about educational equity, tutoring, mentoring, and building relationships with HomeWorks scholars. HomeWorks Trenton is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides a community-based after-school boarding program that includes academic and identity-driven leadership enrichment activities to supplement public schools, equip young women, and build community leaders. HomeWorks fosters a community of young women from Trenton who strive to achieve their full potential and positively impact the world around them.

As a tutor, you will volunteer from 7pm to 8:30pm on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Priority is given to tutors who are available at least two days per week. You must be able to commit to your days throughout the duration of the school year. You must be strong in either math, science, history, or humanities. Our greatest need at the moment is for math tutors; however, tutors in any subject are welcome. 

Tutors should have an interest in and comfort working with 9-12th grade female students. They must be culturally competent and able to honor and respect the beliefs, language, interpersonal styles and behaviors of the individual scholars in our program.

Our volunteers get firsthand experience of aiding the healing journey of children facing medical challenges through play, which allows for creative expression, creates an outlet for emotion, and minimizes the anxiety or stress the children experience. Project Sunshine volunteers do this through in-hospital visits, packing activity kits, and leading virtual play (TelePlay). We lead programming for medical facilities or disease specific nonprofits.

Tuesday Meal Recovery: Volunteers are needed to transport meals from The Peck School (Morristown, NJ) to Joi's Angels (East Orange, NJ), Meal pickup in Morristown (any time between 1-2PM), ~25 minute drive to East Orange.

Note: Volunteer must have their own car and a valid driver's license.

Wednesday Meal Recovery: Volunteers needed to transport meals from Gill St. Bernard's School (Peapack, NJ) to Nourish NJ (Victory Gardens, NJ), Meal pickup in Peapack (any time between 2:45 - 3:45PM), ~25 minute drive to Victory Gardens.

All of United Way of Northern New Jersey’s projects-in-a-box/kit build pricing includes the purchasing and coordination of all the supplies, transportation/delivery of items to the location of your choice, set up and break down, one or more staff members to explain the significance of the project and the impact on the recipients and to lead the event, and transportation/pick up of the finished items to the recipient program/agency. Please see our list of projects below with cost per kit and recommendations of amounts based on a standard, 1.5-2-hour project. Please note that prices are provided as quotes and that actual prices may vary depending on the needs of your group. 

Please note that for most projects, a minimum 3 week lead time is needed to allow for the ordering of supplies. 

Reading Buddy Bags/Literacy Kits - Encourage a love of reading by building stuffed animal “Reading Buddies” and packing new books for 3-5-year-old students. Please ask about options to brand your buddies or include them in a bag with an age-appropriate book for an early learner.  $17 per kit

Teacher Classroom Survival - Assemble supply boxes for United In Care or UWNNJ partner school classrooms. Boxes would include pens, pads, correction stickers, band-aids, sanitizer, tissues, etc. $12 per kit

Personal Care Kits - Provide essential toiletry items for ALICE families and those experiencing poverty or housing insecurity. Kits will include items such as soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitizer, razors, deodorant, and washcloths. $15 per kit

Snack Packs - Many students leave school without enough food to eat at home. Provide students snack packs for ALICE and struggling students in our community. Your team would assemble small packages of healthy snacks and food such as milk/juice boxes, granola bars, pretzels, crackers, and applesauce, all in a bag decorated by you! $10-15 per kit

Financial Literacy Kits—Volunteers will assemble classroom kits for teachers/volunteers to easily facilitate a fun financial workshop for K-2 students. Each kit includes a ceramic piggy bank to paint and decorate, mini-books or activity cards. and crayons. The mini-books can be printed with the sponsor’s logo on the back. $10 per kit

Confidence Kits: Feminine Hygiene items for ALICE and low-income students and other girls and women experiencing “period poverty,” a widespread issue. $12 per kit

Baby Basics Bags —Volunteers pack baby care items for new and expectant parents who are struggling financially.  Baskets may include some of the following:  baby wash, shampoo, lotion, pacifier, pack of diapers, wipes, bottles, nail clippers, diaper cream, a blanket, washcloths/towel, rattles, toys. $30 per kit

Night-Night Bags—Volunteers will stuff a plush animal and put together a bag of comforting nighttime items (a book, toothbrush and toothpaste, and an activity) for very young children who enter a shelter for the first time.  $20 per bag

Military Support - Organize a letter-writing campaign for veterans or active duty servicemen and women. Invite individuals who have previously served in the military or have family members who have served to lead the campaign.

Growing Minds STEM Kits —Volunteers will decorate drawstring bags and assemble STEM learning kits for early learners.  Each kit will include a small seed-starter pot, soil, seeds, instructions and a plant/growing related paperback book. $12 per kit

Bright Smiles Dental Kits – Help put a smile on the face of a child. Volunteers create dental supply kits (toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, small kids mouthwash) for children from families in need. Supplies can be placed in large zip-lock bags for ease in distribution. $9 per kit
