Needs From: Volunteer NJ!

Volunteers are needed to conduct a supply drive for the Food Bank's Weekend Backpack program, which provides critical food for children in need.

The project entails purchasing (or getting donated) the specific items for the backpack bags along with the large zipper lock plastic bags that are used to send the food package home with the children in the program.

If you are interested in participating, please let us know and we will send you a detailed list of the food items to be included.

Thank you for helping to ensure that local children have access to food over the weekend when they might have otherwise gone hungry.

Help give victims of domestic violence a fresh start in life.  Run a collection drive or donate NEW items to to the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center (DASACC)  of Warren County.  Often those affected by domestic abuse must leave their homes without their belongings.  Volunteer teams can help make a difference by doing a collection drive for any of the needed items below:

-personal care items

-non-perishable food items

-diapers (all sizes) and baby care items

-small household items (toasters, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, etc.) 

-bedding items

-seasonal clothing (new)

-children's toys and books

-gift cards for grocery stores

No experience is necessary and this is a wonderful project for any type of group - Girl/Boy Scout, corporate, service, faith-based, etc.

This project can be done anytime during the year.

Corporate and other groups are encouraged to help with various projects to beautify the interior and exterior of the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Warren County building.

Group projects include painting, general outdoor spruce up, cleaning windows, gardening, landscaping and assistance with special events.

If your team is interested in helping with any of these projects, please let us know and we can schedule a time that is convenient.  Weekends are preferred.

Individuals and teams of 5-15 volunteers are sought to assist the Morris County Habitat for Humanity in various building project dates in Morristown area.

Please register your interest and we will work with you to schedule a date and time that will fit into our schedule and meet your needs as well.

All volunteers are supervised by a skilled site supervisor and required tools and equipment are provided.

Volunteers needed to collect the following needed items for families struggling to get by and who have a family member with diabetes:

- food items (fresh and non-perishable)

- personal care items

- gift cards for grocery stores or discount department stores

Volunteers must be 16 years or older and must be willing and able to lift and move furniture. You can pick flexible hours while the store is open Tuesday through Saturday.

The Mentor is a person who has worked for several years in a STEM career, or is a college student pursuing a degree in Science or Technology and wants to share their passion and inspire middle school and high school students, many from underserved communities.

Mentors come to the Students 2 Science laboratory in East Hanover, New Jersey and work with small groups of students encouraging and assisting them throughout the day. Your role is to share your career and degree(s) needed to pursue STEM jobs.

The Program Mentor acts as a coach for the purpose of inspiring, motivating, and educating the students. S/he answers student questions about the professional work environment. Staying with the same group of students throughout the day, and throughout each of the three visits during the school year, s/he is an ambassador for our sponsor corporations. The Program Mentor makes themselves available to answer questions about the career application of the laboratory techniques being used. Insures safety of the students.

The STEM Instructors are subject matter experts who instruct students as they conduct each experiment. Staying at the same experimental station throughout the day, the Program Instructor provides information in a clear and concise manner, helping to reduce the intimidation often associated with laboratory work.

The Program Instructor generates confidence and enthusiasm for the scientific technique being used while insuring the safety of the students. There are also Virtual opportunities for scientists serving as Instructors.

Second Chance for Animals is made up entirely of volunteers, so we are always in need of new individuals who are willing to step up and join us. Help us create new trails! - If you love the smell of sawdust, played with construction
sets as a child, and can wield a screw gun, hammer or even carry lumber, then we need
your help! We are building new trail, boardwalk and benches at our 50 acre restoration
site, Harding Twp. Morris Co. Help clear trails, build boardwalk, remove invasive plants and plant native ones at Great Swamp Watershed Associations Conservation Management Area as we improve the area for educational and recreational use.  

The goal of the Middle Earth Visions is to prepare youth to enter the workforce and begin a fulfilling career. Along with career readiness training, we also provide our students with an industry recognized credential, as well as a short-term internship in a field that interests them. A crucial part of this process is the mock interview, in which the participant takes part in an interview with a professional in order to practice their interview skills and receive feedback. We are looking for volunteers to serve as mock interviewers, and are accepting professionals from a variety of different careers so that each of our program participants may be able to interview with a career professional that can relate to their interests.

GOTR volunteer coaches do not have to be runners themselves; the only requirement is that they be enthusiastic and committed to the healthy development of girls in grades 3-8. Groups meet twice a week for 75 minutes for 10 weeks. Coaches receive training and are provided detailed lesson plans as well as all the materials and guidance needed to implement GOTR. You just need to bring your energy and enthusiasm.

Opportunities are available in Somerset, Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

This opportunity is for a group of volunteers to visit one of NJID's adult training center (ATC) program sites and assist with a craft or activity that has been designed by the staff. Activities are seasonal, fun and hands on. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity as our consumers look forward to meeting new people and welcoming visitors to their programs.

NJID adult day facilities provide comprehensive services for adults with disabilities including meaningful personal development services and vocational and job readiness training. This is an opportunity for a group of volunteers that wants to do spruce up projects at one of NJID's adult day program locations or at an adult or teen residential home. Projects may include light landscaping, seasonal planting and decorating, interior and exterior window washing, dusting and polishing furniture and organizing cabinets or storages areas. Residential homes are located in several counties so please indicate your location when responding to the opportunity posting.

NJID's group homes provide personal assistance and medical oversight for adults requiring specialized care. We also operate three homes that provide compassionate care for teens with disabilities.

This opportunity invites a group of volunteers to spend time in the classrooms assisting with a lesson or activity which has been designed by the teachers. Volunteers participate in a brief orientation about Lakeview and the students they will meet before joining the classrooms. Spending time at Lakeview is rewarding as students look forward to meeting new friends and welcoming you to their classrooms.

The Lakeview School is an approved private school for children with multiple disabilities ages three to twenty-one. Lakeview provides academics, pre-vocational and living skills programs. It is at once a state of the art and incredibly special place.

There is a maximum group size limit of 35 people.

Do you remember your high school and college dances?  They were fun, weren't they?  Well now, you can relive those days and help folks with developmental disabilities all at the same time!  Arc Mercer hosts a dance once a month on the third or fourth Friday for its consumers, and is looking for volunteers to dance with the consumers, set up for meals, serve meals, assist in the kitchen, or, just plain have fun on the dance floor with the consumers or engage in good conversation with them.  Hours are roughly 5:30 to 9 pm.  

Volunteers needed to create new social media accounts, and update accounts and website weekly.

Volunteer wanted to visit a developmentally disabled female adult in an Arc Mercer group home.  Activities include playing games, helping her learn through her workbooks, sharing and possibly preparing meals, walks in the park, and other fun activities.  Evenings 4 to 8 pm.  Volunteer all or any part of that time; minimum 4 hours a week.

Research corporations based on provide criteria.  Purpose is to get sponsors for events.  Work can be done at home or local library.

The goal of the Middle Earth Youth College Readiness program is to not only ensure that students improve their academic performance, but also realize that they are able to make post-secondary education a reality. YCR students learn about managing time, managing money, and the importance of their high school grades along with learning about college applications and college life. Due to the fact that we stress the importance of academic achievement, as well as the importance of standardized tests such as the SAT, we aim to provide some level of tutoring for our students, and our looking for individuals willing to volunteer in this role. Tutoring in a broad range of topics, including SAT and PSAT tutoring, is essential to the success of the YCR program.

SAVE of Essex County is looking to train more volunteer Confidential Sexual Violence Advocates. Advocates work with survivors of sexual assault by accompanying them through medical and legal procedures. 

SAVE will be hosting the next advocate training from September 12 - October 19th. Trainings will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm-9pm. 

Qualifications: 

-At least 21 years old

-Complete 40 hour training 

-Have reliable transportation for accompaniments to hospitals, police stations, and court houses throughout Essex County. 

-Possess good communication skills, dependability, and compassion. 

-Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality

CPR Boards conduct various reviews of children involved in "voluntary placement" cases. In such cases, DCPP has placed a child out of his or her home pursuant to a voluntary agreement signed by the parent but there is no allegation of abuse or neglect and DCPP has not filed a child abuse or neglect complaint case against the parent. In "litigated" cases, for which DCPP has filed a child abuse or neglect complaint, a CPR Board conducts one review to determine the progress made by DCPP in addressing the child's needs and any potential barriers to finding a safe, permanent home for the child. These litigated cases remain under the direct oversight of a judge.

In all cases, CPR Boards draft case-specific recommendations for the consideration of a judge. At CPR Board meetings, held at designated court facilities on a scheduled basis, the Board may interact with DCPP caseworkers or their supervisors, parents, foster parents, or other child welfare stakeholders.

CPR volunteers complete court-sponsored initial training upon appointment in addition to annual continuing education programs dealing with current child welfare issues, ensuring their meaningful participation in the child placement review process. Integral to the New Jersey Child Placement Advisory Council (CPAC) and its mission is the mandate to advise New Jersey’s three branches of government on the effectiveness of the Child Placement Review Act.  The 2014 CPAC Annual Report Recommendations for 2015 accomplishes this.

CPAC also holds training workshops and events on topics that are appropriate and relevant for CPR board volunteers.  CPAC will be hosting its 2015 Annual Training on May 7 at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick.  More information about this event is available via the Council’s “Save The Date” notice.

A representative from each CPR Board statewide is selected annually to be a member of the New Jersey Child Placement Advisory Council (CPAC).

The Warren County Courthouse is looking for Youth Volunteers (ages 14-18) for the Juvenile Conference Committee.

The Juvenile Conference Committees (JCCs) serve under the authority of the Family Division of Superior Court. A JCC is a six to nine member citizen volunteer panel appointed by the Family Division Judge. In a confidential setting, JCC panels hear and decide matters involving alleged juvenile offenders. The juvenile, parent(s) and or guardian(s) and complainant/victim are invited to discuss the offense and related matters with the Committee. The JCC considers the facts, and makes recommendations to the judge for a resolution that would aid in the juvenile's rehabilitation.

The program is designed to divert juveniles charged with first or second time minor offenses to their local JCC, which acts as a community-based arm of the Family Court. Program volunteers are required to complete mandatory program-specific training.

Family Success Centers are community-based, family-centered neighborhood gathering places where community residents can go for family support, information, and services. Family Success Centers serve families in safe and supportive home-like environments designed to strengthen the family unit, build relationships, enrich the lives of community members, and make families and neighborhoods stronger.

Volunteers are needed to lead English as a Second Language courses at the Building Bridges Family Success Center. Volunteers will lead weekly courses to teach the basics for reading and writing English, vocabulary, grammar, and common phrases. Volunteers are also needed to translate and provide additional support to families in need of service at the Family Success Center.

Courses will be taught once a week and your schedule can be determined with the volunteer supervisor.

Volunteer in Arc Mercer's HR Dept.  Help needed to place phone calls to employment references, assemble document packets, work with spreadsheets.  Main need now is filing but the above duties would be part of what you do.  Ideal for a retired person who'd like to not stay at home, and to contribute to a very important non profit agency.  Would like someone on an ongoing basis for about two days a week during regular business hours, but will consider your scheduling needs.  Hone your office skills!

The Grant Writing Assistant searches corporate and foundation websites to identify and recommend specific grant opportunities where Students 2 Science will have a high probability of success. Once agreed to, the Grant Writing Assistant will begin the application process by completing as much information as possible and will then pass this information to the executive director for review and improvement before submitting to the Grant Making organization.

Do you like working with other professional volunteers? Providing a welcoming and nuturing place for students and teachers? Then Students 2 Science, encourages you to join our great team. Your job, to make the morning coffee, greet students and teachers as they arrive in East Hanover for a day at the laborartory. Help us by taking pictures as students perform four science experiments along side corporate volunteers and post them on Facebook. Then it is time for lunch where Volunteers are well feed and food delivered daily for all program days. Your help coordinating this and making sure the day goes smoothly appreciated. Some light paperwork nessesary and computer skills needed. It is a fun and easy day. Volunteers are eligible to join our Volunteer rewards program.

Mentors come to the Students 2 Science laboratory in East Hanover, New Jersey and work with small groups of students encouraging and assisting them throughout the day. Your role is to share your career and degree(s) needed to pursue STEM jobs.

The Program Mentor acts as a coach for the purpose of inspiring, motivating, and educating the students. S/he answers student questions about the professional work environment. Staying with the same group of students throughout the day, and throughout each of the three visits during the school year, s/he is an ambassador for our sponsor corporations. The Program Mentor makes themselves available to answer questions about the career application of the laboratory techniques being used. Insures safety of the students.

Staying at the same experimental station throughout the day, the Program Instructor provides information in a clear and concise manner, helping to reduce the intimidation often associated with laboratory work.

The Program Instructor generates confidence and enthusiasm for the scientific technique being used while insuring the safety of the students. There are also Virtual opportunities for scientists serving as Instructors.

Your job, to make the morning coffee, greet students and teachers as they arrive in East Hanover for a day at the laborartory. Help us by taking pictures as students perform four science experiments along side corporate volunteers and post them on Facebook. Then it is time for lunch where Volunteers are well feed and food delivered daily for all program days. Your help coordinating this and making sure the day goes smoothly appreciated. Volunteer wanted for Arc Mercer's Human Resources Department.  Full office duties including entering data onto Excel spreadsheets, creating Excel spreadsheets, mail merges, assembling education packets. placing phone calls, other duties.  Intermediate or better experience/ knowledge with Excel required.  A perfect opportunity to hone and perfect your office skills!  Asking for a two day a week commitment but scheduling is flexible.

People who have been the victims of domestic violence often have to leave their homes without any of their personal belongings.  In order to help them make a fresh start, we need YOU to help by donating items that you no longer need.

Needed items include:

-children's clothing and toys (must be excellent condition)

-adult clothing (must be in excellent condition)

-computer equipment (must be in working order)

-office supplies

• Administrative Volunteers can work in the Edison office or remotely by making Memory Books for Alzheimer's patients, assisting with mailings, and other projects.

• Patient care volunteers are needed to visit with patients in homes and nursing homes in their areas and may read, write letters, and offer companionship.

Volunteers needed to help out in two facilities of The Arc Mercer, preschool and at one of the group homes.  Data entry, filing, other administrative duties.  Your support will allow staff to give more time to Arc Mercer's consumers.  Weekdays, but we'll work with whatever schedule you need as much as possible.

Become a Volunteer Facilitator with Good Grief

Good Grief helps kids who have experienced the death of their mom or dad, brother or sister, by providing a safe space for them to share, remember, and address their grief while also empowering them to develop coping skills.  We fulfill our mission with dedicated volunteers, who are supervised by skilled staff and experts in the field.  Without the commitment and countless hours of support from our volunteers, we couldn’t operate two centers and provide six nights of support that help 350 kids per month. 

The Stickley Seminar is a free, 6-session training course that prepares potential docents to give tours of The Stickley Museum to the general public and visiting groups. Docents play a vital role in the daily operations of the Stickley Museum, guiding tours and serving as the face of the museum for visitors from around the world. It’s rewarding work that is great for anyone with a curious mind who enjoys meeting new people.

While potential docents are required to a complete all 6-sessions (additional dates to be determined), the first two-hour session of the Stickley Seminar, set for Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m., is recommended for anyone interested in volunteering at the Stickley Museum in any capacity. Volunteer possessing at least moderate proficiency with Excel wanted.  Enter data on payroll, attendance, and progress onto reports at vocational worksite for developmentally disabled folks.  Filing and other office duties also needed.  Work site open from 9 am to 2 pm weekdays but choose your own hours according to the needs of the program.

A little of your time can make a big difference in the life of a very low income person or a struggling family. Simply by contributing your professional and legal skill to resolve a person’s critical legal need, you can make a real difference.  Our Pro Bono Program needs attorneys who will accept one, two or three cases per year on referral from our offices. The referrals are mostly in the areas of family law, consumer law or other areas of civil law. We will work with you to determine the area, or areas of the civil law in which you desire referrals. Once determined, our staff will only refer clients whose legal problem matches your preferred area of expertise. Our staff will prepare the case for referral and be available to provide any assistance needed.  As a participant in our Pro Bono Program, you will be covered by our malpractice insurance.  You will also be eligible for free CLE-approved training at Legal Services of New Jersey, and may be exempt from court appointed pro bono assignements. 

Give tours of The Stickley Museum to the general public and visiting groups!

 Training is provided. Docents interested in working with children are especially needed.

The course is also appropriate as a brush-up for existing docents, and is good preparation for shop and administrative volunteers as well.
